Today we’re thrilled to announce we’ve partnered with American Bandwidth (Ameriband), a leader in Wi-Fi infrastructure, to expand Helium – the world’s largest people-powered network! Through this partnership, the Helium Network is expanding by adding Ameriband’s 100,000+ Data-Only Hotspots, which are like mini cell towers, rapidly growing the coverage footprint across the U.S. almost overnight 🤯.
Unlike the legacy telco model of installing giant, costly cell towers, this massive milestone demonstrates how quickly and efficiently a mobile network can scale when it’s fueled by people deploying coverage.
Ameriband’s vast network is deployed in well-known retail businesses, grocery chains, venues, and commercial locations across the country and will help drive usage to the Helium Network. Thanks to this partnership, anyone with a Helium Mobile phone plan will experience connectivity in even more locations than before.
In addition, other carriers who have joined the Helium Network through what’s known as “Carrier Offload” will be able to offer their users seamless connectivity from the people-powered Helium Network and Ameriband’s Data-Only Hotspots. The Helium Carrier Offload is already being used by three major carriers in North America and has connected over 1 million phones since it launched 3 months ago 💪.
As one of the first big players to embrace this novel model powered by crypto, Ameriband is paving the way for broader adoption of people-powered mobile infrastructure. This collaboration is just the beginning of how a network owned by individuals can provide an alternative and affordable solution for both consumers and carriers, while rewarding Hotspot operators and infrastructure partners like Ameriband.
We’re super excited to welcome Ameriband to the Helium Mobile family as we team up to build the largest people-powered network ever. Together, we’re rising above the status quo and breaking free from the old telco ways to put power in your hands.
